29 American clubs can jointly pay Messi's salary
The contract between Messi and PSG is only valid until June 2023. American club, Inter Miami is one of the potential destinations of the 35-year-old striker. But Messi's $1.1 million weekly salary is a problem. Financial restrictions in the US do not yet allow clubs to pay this salary.
According to Diario Sport (Spain), 29 MLS clubs are negotiating a special structure, allowing them to jointly pay wages to bring Messi to the tournament. They believe that the appearance of the best player FIFA 2022 will enhance the attraction of matches before the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico.
After coming to the US, Messi can choose his own club to play. That club could be in Miami, New York Los Angeles or Atlanta, where Argentina team-mate Thiago Almada is located.
According to the Daily Mail (UK), the move to the US will give Messi a great platform to develop the brand. On the other hand, signing with Messi will help MLS increase television rights.
Besides Messi, Inter Miami is also pursuing his former Barca teammate Sergio Busquets. "We want to bring the best players in the world to the club," said Inter Miami coach Phil Neville. "Messi and Busquets are two prominent names in recent times. They will still bring great benefits to the club. For MLS, signing them will be a game changer."
After PSG were eliminated from the Champions League, the relationship between Messi and the fans deteriorated. In the 0-2 loss to Rennes on March 19, many people booed and whistled in protest. This may make the Argentine striker determined to leave, although PSG wants to extend.
Messi's priority is said to remain in Europe. However, the return to Barca is facing financial barriers. The La Liga organizers are asking Barca to reduce the salary fund for the 2023-2024 season. The top team in La Liga may have to sell many players and not buy new players.
Going to Al Hilal is another option for Messi. Many sources claim that the Saudi club is willing to pay over 200 million USD per year. The player who competed with Messi for many years, Cristiano Ronaldo is playing for another Saudi club, Al Nassr.
Messi has contributed 672 goals and 266 assists in 778 matches for Barca. Since joining PSG in 2021, he has 29 goals and 32 assists in 66 games. At club level, Messi has 10 La Liga, one Ligue 1 and four Champions Leagues. With Argentina, Messi scored 99 goals in 173 matches. He and Argentina won the Copa America 2021, the 2022 Intercontinental Super Cup and the 2022 World Cup. Messi also owns seven Golden Balls and six European Golden Shoes.
