9x coach wins 85 km at Dalat Ultra Trail 2023
Starting with the marathon since 2019, Nguyen Tien Vo has participated in many domestic races such as Vietnam Trail Marathon, Vietnam Mountain Marathon, Vietnam Jungle Marathon, Hanoi Ultra Trail... with familiar distances. Coming to Dalat Ultra Trail 2023, he said that he decided to take himself to a new challenge for the first time and excelled in winning first place in the 85 km distance for men, age group 20-29.
"I also don't think I will win, because I am not a professional marathoner and this is also my first time trying at 85 km. This achievement for me is an honor and pride, but it's also very fair with the efforts during 12 consecutive hours," Tien Vo shared about his feelings when he reached the finish line in the race that took place in Da Lat more than a week ago.
With an altitude of over 3,500 m and a maximum slope of up to 17%, along with sections of hard-trail terrain, Dalat Ultra Trail is considered one of the best trail running races. Nice run but also challenging. This year's tournament has the participation of 7,000 athletes, including 287 foreign athletes from 47 countries and territories.
Sharing about the path of pursuing his passion for running, Nguyen Tien Vo said that he started with short distances, then improved his performance by planning training and resting scientifically. Specifically, he started training from 3 km of continuous running, then to 5 km, 10 km, 15 km and each time he raised the distance was maintained for 2-4 weeks, 3-4 training sessions per week. .
"Every increase in distance is a time to rebuild the training plan. It will take more time to practice and recovery time will also increase," the coach born in 1994 shared.
Originally not a professional marathon runner, Tien Vo said, he used to have difficulty arranging a training schedule to balance with the busy work of a fitness trainer. Because there are no actual training sessions, he works to improve his fitness with the equipment in the gym and exercises to make muscle groups more flexible.
The 9x guy shared that one of his advantages is the place where he trains and works - the Elite Fitness club. There are a full range of specialized exercise machines, helping Tien Vo to practice simulation on different real running terrains. The 85 km winner of the Dalat Ultra Trail 2023 race also emphasized the role of nutrition, and considered it an important factor for runners who want to conquer high achievements. According to his explanation, when training for long distances, if nutrition is not enough, the recovery ability of muscle groups will be poor, athletes will get tired very quickly.
However, according to the fitness coach from Elite Fitness, the decisive factor to training results is still hard work and determination not to give up. He revealed that when running long distances, the body had to go through dozens of hours of continuous high-intensity activity, causing himself to have thoughts of wanting to give up. But when he calms down, positive thinking urges Tien Vo to continue moving forward.
"In my opinion, one thing that is also very important for beginners to run is to find and connect with a community to practice together and improve performance," he said.
After his achievements at Dalat Ultra Trail, Nguyen Tien Vo said he had returned to his daily job as a fitness trainer at Elite Fitness Ba Trieu (Hanoi), with the task of guiding and training members on sports activities.
