Alcaraz wins first title in 2023
Alcaraz defeated world number 12 Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-5 in the final after 1 hour and 33 minutes. At the age of 19, he became the youngest player to win an ATP 250 tournament on clay.
This is Alcaraz's first title after the 2022 US Open championship and the seventh Cup of his career. The Spaniard has just spent more than three months without playing to treat abdominal and hamstring injuries. But winning the Argentina Open on his first appearance shows that the emerging talent of world tennis is ready for the new season.
"I played the final comfortably even though I knew it was going to be very difficult. I was very focused in the early game, trying to keep my game to my advantage. That's what I need in a game. final," Alcaraz told the ATP.
The turning point of the final came in game 6 of the first set. With a 2-3 lead, Alcaraz won a seven-game streak to lead 6-3, 3-0. The Spaniard did not face any break-points until leading 5-3 in the second set. Although Norrie broke the intersection and equalized the score 5-5, a small successful phase in game 12 helped Alcaraz win the final.
In four games at the 2023 Argentina Open, Alcaraz lost only one set. He closed the gap with world number one Novak Djokovic on the ATP table to 590 points.
