Alves is about to compete in the Spanish prison championship
Earlier this week, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the organization of a tournament with 43 prisons competing. This is the 11th time this award has been held under a cooperation agreement between the Spanish Prison Association and the Ministry of the Interior.
The purpose of the tournament, which opened on April 12, is to help prisoners integrate through sport. The final will be held at Ciudad Del Futbol Las Rozas, the RFEF headquarters and Spain's official training ground, in June.
Brians 2, the prison located in the municipality of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, about 40 km from Barcelona and where Alves is held - also participated in this tournament. If there are no health problems, the Brazilian defender will be named in Brians 2's team to attend the tournament.
Marca considers this an opportunity for Alves to win an unprecedented title in his career. The Brazilian defender holds the record of owning 43 collective titles, including one with Bahia club (Brazil), five with Sevilla (Spain), 23 with Barca (Spain), two with Juventus (Italy), five in PSG (France), one with Sao Paulo (Brazil) and six with the Brazilian team.
Alves has just joined Brazil for the 2022 World Cup. In the match against Cameroon in the group stage, he became the oldest player to play for the team at the World Cup at 39 years and 210 days. Brazil stopped when it lost to Croatia 2-4 in the penalty shootout of the quarter-finals on December 9.
Alves' former teammate, Ronaldinho, won the football tournament in a prison in Paraguay in 2020. The rewards for the Brazilian player and his teammates were Cups, souvenir flags and a 16 kg pig.
In 2020, Ronaldinho was stripped of his passport by Brazilian authorities for refusing to pay a fine of $8.5 million for building an illegal pier. Later, Ronaldinho and his brother De Assis were arrested while entering Paraguay with fake passports to attend an event. After five months in prison, Ronaldinho was released but had to pay a fine of 90,000 USD.
On the morning of January 20, police arrested Alves at the Mossos d'Esquadra de Les Corts station, Barcelona city for allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl on December 30, 2022. Since then, he has been held at Brians Prison 1 without bail. After three nights, Alves was transferred to Brians 2 - where most of the prisoners were accused of sexual assault. At the end of February, Alves was denied bail by the Spanish Court and could face one to two years in prison, until his case is brought to trial.
According to Cadena SER, Alves will appear in court on April 17 to give new testimony about the incident. Before that, he had given five different testimonies. At first, he asserted that he did not know the victim, then said that he had seen this woman but nothing happened. Next, the former Barca and PSG defender confirmed that she took the initiative to move towards him. By early February, Alves first admitted to having sex with the 23-year-old girl. A few weeks later, he accused a 23-year-old woman of sexually assaulting her in the bathroom and has not been honest about the incident since he was arrested because he wanted to protect her.
Meanwhile, according to the victim's testimony, although she tried to resist, she was still forced to have sex by Alves. She was then taken to the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, where the person was examined for traces of biological evidence.
