Amateur golfer makes an impressive start at the major The Open 2023
Lamprecht is 22 years old, South African, 2.03 meters tall. He is third on the world amateur golf table and a final year student at Georgia Tech University, USA. Lampretch made it to The Open this time by winning the British Amateur last month.
On the opening day of July 20, Lampretch averaged 325 yards, hit six fairways, and went to the green according to the 12-hole standard. But thanks to a good putt, he scored seven birdies, just two bogeys, thereby taking the lead next to Emiliano Grillo and Tommy Fleetwood – two veterans on the PGA Tour as well as the DP World Tour.
"As an amateur, it's surprising to get such good results. But honestly I don't think so. To enter this prestigious award, the level must be equal. That's not smug, but I'm very confident in myself," Lampretch said on Golf Channel after round 1. When this stage ended, the top 10 had not yet recorded the top 5 in the world - Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlvland, Viktor Holroyt, Jon Rahm.
Lampretch has been practicing golf since he was three years old and is currently just over two meters tall. In the family, his father is close to this mark and is the shortest in the last five generations. Lampretch's instrument is 2.1 meters tall.
With a "giant" skeleton, Lampretch can reach clubhead speeds of up to 227 km/h and ball speeds of 338 km/h. These two parameters made former PGA Tour boss Bryson DeChambeau pay attention and actively interact during pre-tournament rehearsals.
The Open was born in 1860, hosted by Royal & Ancient (R&A). Suppose this year is the 151st tournament with a bonus fund of 16.5 million USD, including 3 million for the champion.
