Spain defeated Sociedad 2-1 in round five of La Liga, Carlo Ancelotti surpassed Zinedine Zidane to become the coach with the second most wins in Real history.

Through two terms, 2013-2015 and 2021 until now, Ancelotti and Real have won 173 matches in all competitions. These victories came in La Liga (112), Champions League (36), Copa del Rey (17), FIFA Club World Cup (4), European Super Cup (2) and Spanish Super Cup (2). From those 173 victories, Ancelotti and Real won 10 titles, including one La Liga, two King's Cups, one Spanish Super Cup, two Champions Leagues, two European Super Cups and two Club World Cups.

Also through two terms, 2016-2018 and 2019-2021, Zidane led Real to 172 victories in all competitions. The French coach won 11 titles, including two La Liga, two Spanish Super Cups, two European Super Cups, two Club World Cups and three Champions Leagues in a row from 2016 to 2018.

The coach who holds the winning record with Real is the late legendary Miguel Munoz. He led Real from 1960 to 1974, winning 357 matches and winning 14 titles, including nine La Liga and two European Cups.

At the Bernabeu on September 17, Real faced many difficulties and let Sociedad dominate in the first half. In the 5th minute, from Takefusa Kubo's pass, Ander Barrenetxea shot two consecutive shots in the penalty area to beat goalkeeper Kepa, opening the score for Sociedad. In the 11th minute, the Japanese winger continued to leave his mark with a left-footed curl into the far corner of the home net, but the goal was not recognized because of offside.

Real flourished to score two goals in the second half, with midfielder Federico Valverde's shot from outside the box hitting the post and hitting the net from close range, and striker Joselu's cross-field header.

With this result, Real is the first club to win nine points from a losing position in the first five matches in La Liga, since Zaragoza in the 2004-2005 season. Before defeating Sociedad, the royal team won against Almeria 3-1 and Getafe 2-1 in La Liga this season.

Ancelotti was unhappy when Real entered the game slowly and conceded first in three of the opening five La Liga matches. The Italian coach emphasized that Real has many players who can score goals, such as Valverde, Rodrygo, Joselu or Luka Modric, and needs to dominate early to take the lead.

Ancelotti said that Fran Garcia had difficulty facing Kubo's dynamism in the first half, before shining with a double assist in the second half. At 24 years and 34 days old, Garcia is the youngest Real player to contribute two assists in a La Liga match, since Marcelo in the match against Mallorca in May 2012 (24 years and 1 day).

The 64-year-old coach also praised Joselu for having many special qualities in Real's attack, including playing well with his back to the goal, making good walls and being dangerous with finishes in the penalty area. Ancelotti also commented that rookie Jude Bellingham broke his four-game scoring streak because he played lower against Sociedad.

On September 20, Real will continue to play at home at the Bernabeu against Union Berlin in the opening round of Group C of the Champions League, then will be a guest of Atletico in the sixth round of La Liga on September 24.
