Andrew Wiggins is constantly absent for "personal reasons", Warriors ready for the worst scenario
On February 14, Andrew Wiggins scored 29 points to help lead the Golden State Warriors to a 135-126 victory over the Washington Wizards. The 28-year-old is averaging 17.1 points and 5.0 rebounds and is on 47.3% FG from the start of the season.
But so far, Wiggins has not played for the Warriors any more games in the past 4 weeks. The reason announced by the team is "handling personal problems". No one knows what is happening with the All-Star striker in 2022 and everything is being kept hidden inside the team.
Today (March 12) the Golden State Warriors head coach gave a worrying update on Wiggins' ability to play. Steve Kerr said that "it is unlikely that Wiggins will be able to return this season".
"I hope that happens," coach Steve Kerr replied when asked about the possibility of Andrew Wiggins' return. as much time as possible to handle personal matters.
We've agreed that this problem is bigger than basketball, so the team will support Wiggins as best we can. If he comes back it will be great, if not then we will prepare for the worst (without Wiggins for the rest of the season).”
A former member of the University of Kansas who competed, Andrew Wiggins played nine NBA seasons. He joined the Golden State Warriors during the 2019-20 season in a blockbuster exchange involving D'Angelo Russell.
Soon after, Wiggins became an important pillar of coach Steve Kerr, making a great contribution to the 2021-22 championship trophy thanks to his comprehensive offensive and defensive performance.
Most notable was his six 2022 finals, where he averaged 18.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
This year, Wiggins' form is also relatively good, although he sometimes has to sit out due to injury. But from February 14 to now, Andrew has temporarily left the team to deal with personal matters.
Filling the position left by Andrew Wiggins is Donte DiVincenzo, who is averaging 10.0 points with 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Donte is playing to his full potential, though the Warriors still need Wiggins to aim to go far in the Playoffs.
