Anthony Davis injury update, good news for Los Angeles Lakers fans?
Los Angeles Lakers fans just had a bad day when they saw their favorite team lose bitterly to the Charlotte Hornets at home, but at least they still have some good news to save their emotions before Christmas.
The mysterious injury of Anthony Davis has been officially shared by the Lakers medical team and instead of having to take a break for at least 1 month, the bigman born in 1993 can re-appear earlier.
Back at this point last week, Anthony Davis was hurt after a situation where he swiped his foot on Nikola Jokic and then made a mistake on the ground. He left the field in the second half and has missed four matches in a row.
Specific information about Davis' injury has been hidden by the Lakers, leading to many speculations in the fan community, including suspicions of an ankle flip or bone damage in the lower leg area.
Even reputable journalists do not have much information, saying that Anthony Davis must be suspended from playing indefinitely. Particularly, journalist Shams Charania gave a specific timeline, which is AD at least 1 month to treat the injury.
As of today (December 24), the Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced the situation of the best player on the team since the beginning of the season. Pro-Lakers reporter Mike Trudell writes:
"After many intensive consultations between the Los Angeles Lakers medical team and a number of leading experts, Anthony Davis' injury was determined to be overload in the right foot."
Overload injuries carry a lot of variables, depending on the bones involved and the severity. Experts said that if it is mild, you only need to rest for about 7-14 days.
In more severe cases, athletes need to be sidelined for months and may even require surgical intervention.
Hearing this, many Los Angeles Lakers fans will probably be pessimistic, but two reputable ESPN journalists Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin have shared a positive information.
"Davis' leg has eased quite a bit in the past few days and the Lakers striker will continue to rest for the next 7-10 days. At the end of this timeline, the medical team will evaluate the recovery process and decide on Davis's ability to return to the field.
Right now, the belief within the Los Angeles Lakers is that Anthony Davis avoided the worst-case scenario and didn't need surgical intervention," ESPN reported.
Instead of at least 1 month as before, Anthony Davis can return as early as early January, when the Lakers have a series of 5 games away from home in a row. If later, bigman born in 1993 will reappear with his teammates in mid-January.
No matter when he returns, it is good news for LA's purple half because they are in dire need of a stable name in both attack and defence.
This is something if, except for LeBron James, only Davis can do it. Before his injury, he was averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 blocks per game.
