Argentina won penalties against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the World Cup 2022
Messi relived the feeling eight years ago, when Argentina overcame the Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup semi-final penalty shootout. Just like then, Messi fulfilled his responsibility in the first kick. Argentina's hero was goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez when he stopped the Netherlands' first two kicks, taken by Virgil Van Dijk and Steven Berghuis. The next two rounds of Argentina, Leandro Paredes and Gonzalo Montiel were all successful, similar to Teun Koopmeiners, Weghorst and Luuk De Jong on the Dutch side. Although Enzo Fernandez shot out in Argentina's fourth leg, Lautaro Martinez successfully completed the decisive kick, helping Argentina go through.
