Arsenal beat Man City in England Super Cup penalty shootout

England equalized 1-1 in the 11th minute of injury time, "Gunners" then won 4-1 in the penalty shootout to win the 2023 British Super Cup.

The first title in the new season seemed to be in the pocket of Man City when young talent Cole Palmer took them ahead with a textbook cut. The goal came from a quick attack when Phil Foden passed Thomas Partey in the middle of the field and Kieran Tierney's indecisive clearance created conditions for Kevin De Bruyne to create a goal for his juniors.

Aaron Ramsdale's two consecutive saves helped Arsenal avoid a second goal. The English goalkeeper beat Foden in the face-to-face and in the next corner, he denied Rodri's header. However, on the offensive front, Arsenal proved to be relatively deadlocked. Therefore, although the second half was added for eight minutes, not many people thought that the "Gunners" could turn the tide.

In the fourth minute of injury time, a collision occurred between Kyle Walker and Partey, causing a four-minute interruption. Therefore, the injury time of the second half was increased to 12 minutes according to the new rules. This contributed to creating a dramatic equalizer in the 11th minute of Arsenal. After an unsuccessful corner kick, the second-half striker Leandro Trossard dribbled the ball and finished in front of the box. The kick did not seem to be dangerous, but touching Manuel Akanji changed direction, causing goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to give up.
