Arsenal defender mocks Aubameyang
Gabriel scored the only goal of the game, with a cushion from close range after Bukayo Saka's corner in the 63rd minute, Arsenal won three points in round 15 at Stamford Bridge.
After the match, he posted a message on Twitter "No personal enmity. London is red", with a photo celebrating with team-mate Saliba and Aubameyang's sad moment.
According to British media, this is a response of the 24-year-old midfielder to Aubameyang. Before the match, the Chelsea striker said in a video on BT Sport channel: "Arsenal, I have no personal grudges. I'm back, in blue, and ready. Come on."
Gabriel joined Arsenal in the summer of 2020 for $ 33 million from Lille. He played with Aubameyang for more than two seasons, before the Gabon striker joined Barca on a free in January 2022 because of disagreements with coach Mikel Arteta. After half a season, scoring 13 goals and assisting one in 24 games in all competitions for Barca, he joined Chelsea on the last day of the summer transfer market 2022.
In the first meeting with his old club, Aubameyang played weakly, touching the ball only eight times, losing the ball twice and having a shot saved, before making way for Armando Broja from the 64th minute. After the game, coach Graham Potter gave that Aubameyang has not been able to show much because of Chelsea's game problems, not the striker personally. He said: "We need to create more opportunities. Otherwise, the media will exaggerate the performance of individuals, while this is a collective problem."
This is not the first time Gabriel has responded to colleagues. After the opening match against Arsenal 2-0 in the English Premier League season 2021-2022, Brentford striker Ivan Toney posted the message "Great victory with teammates". This season, after defeating Brentford 3-0 in round 8, Gabriel posted a similar status line on Twitter.
Last month, Gabriel extended with Arsenal until the summer of 2027. Although not completely stable, the Brazilian midfielder and his teammates have only conceded 11 goals in the English Premier League since the beginning of the season, the best achievement and equal to Newcastle.
Thanks to Gabriel's only goal, Arsenal returned to the top of the table with 34 points, maintaining a two-point gap with defending champion Man City. The player born in 1997 has scored nine goals from corners in the Premier League, a record no other player in the league has reached since he joined Arsenal. Behind Gabriel are Harry Kane with eight goals and Kurt Zouma, Mohamed Salah, Lewis Dunk with six goals.
