Arsenal scored five goals against Barca
*Score: Saka 13', Havertz 43', Troussard 55', 78', Vieira 89' - Lewandowski 7', Raphinha 34', Torres 88'.
Due to traffic jams, Arsenal arrived late and delayed the match by half an hour. In their starting lineup, there is no expensive rookie Declan Rice for unknown reasons. Entering the game, the Premier League runners-up also swerved and let Barca concede a goal in the 7th minute. After Raphinha cushioned the ball to keeper Aaron Ramsdale, Robert Lewandowski rushed in to open the scoring for Barca.
But the goal seemed to wake Arsenal up. They continuously opened attacks, with the flexibility of the upline group of players including Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka. Barca felt overwhelmed, and could not hold the advantage for too long. In the 13th minute, taking advantage of Andreas Christensen's broken block, Saka shot into the corner to level the score 1-1 for Arsenal.
Had Saka not squandered the opportunity, Arsenal would have had an easy game. In the 15th minute, the English winger missed the ball right in front of the empty goal after Jesus' assist. About seven minutes later, he continued to be ungrateful when he took a penalty that missed the post.
Understood most of the time, but Barca unexpectedly earned a second goal in the 34th minute. Raphinha took a free kick from 30 yards, causing the ball to hit Odegaard to change direction and go into Ramsdale's goal.
With the initiative in the game, Arsenal still has the initiative. After multiple attempts to break through Barcelona's defense, they drew 2-2 in the 43rd minute. Odegard headed the ball from Saca's cross and scored, allowing Havorts to buffer up close in Tesla's net.
Barca replaced all 11 main players right after the break. Due to the lack of many pillars, the Spanish team had a big problem in defense. In the 55th minute, in the midst of the four Barca players, Trossard still found a space, shot diagonally to raise the score to 3-2 for Arsenal. It was also the Belgian midfielder who increased the gap in the 78th minute, when he shot from the left cross.
Barca created some chances, but lacked luck. Ousmane Dembele and Alejandro Balde both hit the wooden frame. It wasn't until the 88th minute that the defending La Liga champions added another goal thanks to Ferran Torres' cross-angle shot.
The friendly match ended with Fabio Vieira's masterpiece in the 89th minute. The 23-year-old Portuguese midfielder shot from 25 meters away, sending the ball into the top corner of Barca's goal.
This is Arsenal's third friendly match in the US, after the 5-0 MLS All Star win on July 19 and a 0-2 loss to Man Utd on July 22. On August 2, Arsenal returned to England to compete for the Emirates Cup with Monaco, before competing for the English Super Cup with Man City four days later.
Meanwhile, Barca just played the first match in the summer tour. On July 22, the Spanish team had to cancel the match against Juventus due to many members suffering from gastrointestinal inflammation. In the US, Barca also meets Real Madrid on July 29 and AC Milan on August 1.
