Bayern fell to an injury-time victory in the Bundesliga
Bayern and Leverkusen are the two remaining teams that have won the first three rounds. With the advantage of the Allianz Arena home field and past head-to-head superiority, the defending champions started like a dream and took the lead in the 7th minute. From a corner kick, Leverkusen's defense let Kane and the striker loose. The Englishman comfortably headed the ball from close range at the far post.
This is Kane's fourth goal after his first four matches with Bayern in the Bundesliga. The last player to do this was Miroslav Klose in 2007. This is also the English striker's 300th goal after 505 club appearances.
However, if Bayern introduces Kane, Leverkusen also has an equally impressive rookie, left-back Alex Grimaldo. In the 24th minute, from the free kick spot 25 meters from the goal, the Spanish player shot over the fence, sending the ball close to the bottom edge of the crossbar and not giving goalkeeper Sven Ulreich a chance to block. This is the first goal Grimaldo scored for Leverkusen.
The two teams struggled for the rest of the first half. Bayern is slightly better in terms of ball control with 55%, but Leverkusen shows they are not easily bullied. The team led by former midfielder Xabi Alonso plays disciplined at home to limit the opponent's movements from the sidelines, but is also ready to rise up to gain control of the match.
At the beginning of the second half, Bayern had a good opportunity to regain the lead. Thomas Muller controlled the error of the cross from the left wing, but it became a just-in-range assist for Kane to finish. However, away team goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky came out very quickly to narrow the shot angle and save the goal.
The drama of the match intensified in the last 10 minutes. The card introduced by Tuchel in the second half - Mathys Tel - was effective with a tricky dribble on the left wing, before stretching to clear the deck for Leon Goretzka to score at close range.
It seemed like this 85th minute goal would bring three points to Bayern. But in the fourth minute, home defender Alphonso Davies made a mistake when he pushed Jonas Hofmann down in the penalty area. After reviewing VAR, referee Daniel Schlager decided to give Leverkusen a penalty. In the following confrontation, although he guessed the right direction, Ulreich could not block Exequiel Palacios' kick.
The 1-1 draw at Bayern was enough for Leverkusen to keep the top spot in the Bundesliga table. Although they have the same 10 points as their opponents, Alonso and his team are better in terms of goal difference (+8 compared to +7). In the middle of next week, Leverkusen will start in the Europa League group stage with a match against Hacken and Bayern will take on Man Utd in the Champions League.
