Bayern reclaim the top of the Bundesliga table
The day before the Bayern - Union Berlin match, Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 1-0 to take the lead with 46 points, creating a three-point gap with two competitors. If they win in a direct confrontation, Bayern or Union Berlin will level the gap.
Contrary to the first leg in Berlin, where the two teams drew 1-1, Union Berlin could not keep its stubbornness when it came to the Allianz Arena. In the match on the evening of February 26, the away team could only hold out for half an hour.
Bayern opened the scoring 31 minutes into the match. Kingsley Coman's right cross from the right flank, Choupo-Moting bounced high and headed into the far corner. In the 40th minute, Coman directly scored. After Thomas Muller's cross, the French striker broke through the center, dribbled past goalkeeper Ronnow, and then shot into an empty goal.
Bayern even decided the fate of the match in the first half. In the first minute of compensation, Muller cleared the ground for Jamal Musiala to cushion the ball to complete the 3-0 victory.
Union Berlin put in more effort in the second half, but not enough to endanger Bayern. The visitors had just two shots in total and 35 percent possession, while Bayern had 14 shots and 65 percent possession.
After an easy win against the third-ranked team, Bayern returned to the top with 46 points after 22 rounds. The defending champions have a difference of +43, more than double Dortmund's +18. The direct confrontation in round 26 could be the decisive match of the season. In the first leg, the two teams drew 2-2 at Dortmund's Westfalen stadium.
