Saudi Arabia's Karim Benzema scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Al Akhdoud, and brought Al Ittihad back to the top of the Saudi Pro League after six rounds.

Benzema scored from the ball on the left wing in the 72nd minute. After receiving a low cross, the French striker pushed the ball to hit the home team's defender. Immediately afterward, he used his knee to lift the ball past goalkeeper Paulo Vitor to score.

Before the deciding goal, Al Ittihad did not play well. Meeting Al Akhdoud's deep-lying defense, the Saudi Pro League champions' midfield attacking style became ineffective. In the first half, Benzema only attracted attention with a curling shot in the 38th minute. Goalkeeper Paulo Vitor needed two touches to control it.

After the break, Al Ittihad attacked the wings more. On the left wing, Brazilian player Romarinho caused trouble for Al Akhdoud with his technical moves. Finally, luck smiled on them when Benzema successfully took advantage of the opportunity in the 72nd minute.

The goal against Al Akhdoud was Benzema's third goal after six rounds of the Saudi Pro League. Previously, the 35-year-old striker also scored three goals in four matches at the Arab Champions Cup for Al Ittihad.

Al Ittihad's victory on the evening of September 14 had a significant contribution from the midfielder duo Fabinho - N'Golo Kante. The two former Premier League players helped the reigning Saudi Pro League champions control the ball 62%.

Al Ittihad returned to the lead, with 15 points after six rounds. They have only lost one match since the beginning of the tournament, when they lost 3-4 to Al Hilal on September 1. Al Hilal and Al Taawoun are ranked second and third, with the same 13 points, but have one match left. Al Hilal can regain the leading position if they win against Al Riyadh on the evening of September 15. Meanwhile, Ronaldo's Al Nassr is ranked sixth, with nine points after five matches.
