Bernardo Silva: 'Man City will surpass Real'
Man City drew Bayern 1-1 in the quarter-final second leg on the evening of April 19 and won 4-1 on aggregate. In the semi-finals, Silva and his teammates will reunite with Real. Last season, also in the semi-finals, Real beat Man City 6-5 on aggregate.
When asked about the possibility of "collecting the debt" against Real, Silva replied: "We will definitely do it. We always try, but the whole team is very confident. I think we will overcome."
Silva admits Man City struggled in the middle of the season. But since the 0-1 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League on February 5, he and his teammates have gradually stabilized, with 12 wins and three draws in all competitions. The Portuguese midfielder believes Man City has a chance to win a treble, in both the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup this season.
"We're at a point where if you drop your form in just one game, you're out of the game," Silva added. "It will be difficult, but we will work hard to bring back some titles."
In the English Premier League, Man City is ranked second. They have 70 points from 30 games, four points behind Arsenal but played one game less. They also have the opportunity to decide for themselves because they have a match against Arsenal at Etihad Stadium on April 26.
Man City also flourished in the Champions League. They won two German teams, Leipzig 8-1 in the round of 16 and Bayern 4-1 in the quarterfinals. Thanks to that, Silva and his teammates reached the semi-finals for the third consecutive season.
In the FA Cup, Man City will play semi-final against Sheffield United, the team playing in the first division, on April 22. If they win, they will go to the final to meet the winner of the Man Utd - Brighton pair. The FA Cup semi-finals are both played at neutral London stadiums.
Man City have never won the Champions League. Their best achievement is reaching the finals of the 2020-2021 season. Under the leadership of coach Pep Guardiola since 2016, Man City has won four Premier Leagues, one FA Cup and four League Cups.
Man City are Real's third consecutive English opponent in the Champions League this season. Previously, the defending champion defeated Liverpool 6-2 in the round of 16 and Chelsea 4-0 in the quarter-finals. If they beat Man City, Real will enter the final to meet the winner of the Milan - Inter pair. The two semi-finals between Real and Man City will take place on May 9 and 17.
