British track star injured by broken pole
Bradshaw was injured while warming up for the pole vault qualifier on his first day in the pole vault competition in Eugene. The pole broke in half during the jump, causing the 30-year-old to land on his neck and pain in his arms, back and hamstrings.
She received immediate medical attention and decided not to compete because she feared serious injuries. Bradshaw missed this summer's Commonwealth Games and European Championships to focus on recovering from injury before competing for medals at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. However, her hopes were dashed on the first day of the competition.
Bradshaw recounted the incident: "I was turning around when the pole snapped and was punched into a hole in the neck." "I slipped down and felt a pain in my back. At first, my wrist hurt crazy. Later, I felt that my gluteal muscles and hamstrings were wrong."
Bradshaw experienced a pole break for the first time and he was shocked. After three weeks of careful preparation, the British track and field athlete burst into tears because he was unable to continue the race. "At this stage of my career, if I can't compete for medals, I won't take any risks," she further explained the decision to withdraw from the competition.
Meanwhile, Bradshaw coach Scott Simpson said: "I was shocked, surprised and couldn't imagine the pole breaking in half like that. I immediately asked her if she was okay. I was worried that there was something wrong with Bradshaw. Bad, and lucky she wasn't hurt more seriously."
Bradshaw currently holds his pole vault records both indoors and outdoors, when he surpassed 4.87 m (indoor in 2012) and 4.9 m (outdoor in 2021). She won bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, bronze at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, gold at the 2013 European Indoor Championships, bronze at the 2018 European Championships and silver at the 2019 European Indoor Championships. She also won the gold medal at the 2018 World Championships.
Under coach Simpson, Bradshaw has been one of the best pole vaulters in the world and made the Top 10 in the Track & Field News selection four times in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017. She is currently studying sports and science at Manchester Metropolitan University through distance learning to have time to practice.
