According to Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets, thanks to a long time together at Barca, he and Lionel Messi can understand each other only through glances and small gestures on the field.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Messi again," Busquets said after the 4-0 win over Atlanta United in the Group J Leagues Cup on the morning of July 26. "Playing with Messi at Barca for so long makes everything so much easier. We understand each other by looking at each other, the way we orient our bodies. Hopefully we can take advantage of the bond that we have. always have, now in Miami."

Busquets, from joining the Barca first team in 2008, played with Messi at the Camp Nou until the Argentine star joined PSG on a free form in the summer of 2021. The star duo together won every title with Barca, including three Champions League in 2009, 2011 and 2015.

Messi started to explode in the Inter Miami shirt. In his debut, he came on from the 54th minute and then scored a super kick in the fourth minute to seal a 2-1 victory over Cruz Azul. In the next match against Atlanta United, the Argentine star contributed two goals and one assist to help Inter Miami win 4-0.

Busquets was not surprised when he praised Messi as the best, most complete player in the world, did not take long to adapt and will continue to show high form in the MLS. The Spanish midfielder expects Messi to regularly contribute goals, assists and other unseen, unaccounted for Inter Miami.

In early May, Busquets confirmed his departure from Barca at the end of his contract, despite coach Xavi's persuasion to stay for another year. The 35-year-old midfielder refused many huge salary offers from Saudi Arabia to join Inter Miami and reunite his best friend Messi. The contract between the two parties is valid until the summer of 2025, with an option to extend for a year.

Busquets admits having difficulty adapting to the new environment, which is more complicated by the weather than by technical issues. "I feel good, the weather is very wet, which is completely different from what I've been through in my career," he explained. "We are adapting and feeling good. With regular playing and winning, things become much quicker and easier."

Inter Miami is currently at the bottom of the MLS eastern table with 18 points. But Busquets insists the club's ambition is to compete for titles. "Inter Miami is not at its best, but we are starting a new chapter with new contracts, new coaches and injured players. That's the driving force, we want to improve the team and fight for all. all titles," the former Barca midfielder affirmed.

Thiago Almada, midfielder of Atlanta United, was a member of the Argentina team that won the 2022 World Cup. Even though Atlanta United failed, he was still happy when he swapped shirts with his idol Messi after the match. "I never had Messi's shirt, I never wanted to ask him about changing shirts. And now against Messi on the pitch, I can ask for it," Almada expressed.
