Cambodia does not sell tickets to see the 32nd SEA Games
Some Cambodian sports news sites recently announced that the ticket price to enter the Morodok Techo stadium to watch the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games is 200,000 riel (about 1.1 million VND). But on March 30, this country's Prime Minister Hun Sen confirmed that there would be no ticket sales at the upcoming Southeast Asian sports festival.
"I do not agree with the sale of tickets for the opening, closing or any competitions at the SEA Games," the Phnom Penh Post quoted Prime Minister Hun Sen as saying. "Anyone who does not comply with this directive will be held accountable to me and to the law."
According to the Cambodian Prime Minister, the sale of tickets to the next SEA Games may affect the success that the country pursues when hosting the Games. "Cambodia has been waiting for 44 years and spent a lot of resources, time and money to ensure this event is a victory," Hun Sen emphasized.
The 32nd SEA Games organizers then posted Prime Minister Hun Sen's directive on the official information channel. Fans who have purchased tickets will be instructed by the organizers on how to handle them in another announcement.
Besides many agreeing opinions, there are also many Cambodians who are concerned that not selling tickets at the 32nd SEA Games may lead to unintended consequences, such as a field failure due to uncontrolled number of people. Others said that the organizers need to increase security to control the number of fans entering the competition venues during the time of the congress.
The free admission policy was applied by other host countries at previous SEA Games. At the 2022 congress in Vietnam, the organizers only sell tickets for matches with the Vietnam U23 men's football team to control the number of people because the demand for viewing is much greater than other content and sports.
The 32nd SEA Games will take place from April 29 to May 17 in five cities: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Kampot, Kep and Sihanoukville. Nearly 10,000 athletes will compete in 37 subjects with about 600 content.
Prime Minister Hun Sen said Cambodia has spent more than 100 million USD (about 2,300 billion VND) for the 32nd SEA Games. This is the first time Cambodia has organized a regional sports festival, after many rejections due to limited facilities. regime.
