Azerbaijani chess player Magnus Carlsen is content to win the last major title he is missing, the Chess World Cup.

After defeating Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu in the tie-break of the 2023 Chess World Cup final on August 24, Carlsen posted on Twitter an animation that implied: "Chess? I'm done with it".

In an interview after becoming the champion, Carlsen also said that nothing satisfied him when he entered the tournament, except the championship. "I finished the last title I needed to achieve," he added. "I'm really happy".

In the world individual chess tournaments, Carlsen won the standard chess five times, won four fast chess titles, and six blitz chess titles. However, in the previous four World Cup appearances, he only achieved the highest achievement of bronze medals. The title in Baku on August 24 completed Carlsen's collection, making him the only player in history to win all four world tournaments mentioned above.

Carlsen has won 50 major titles in his career, including world championships and invitational super prizes. He is the most successful in the Tata Steel super tournament with eight championships. Besides the World Cup and Candidates, he has won other tournaments more than once.

On the way to the last title, Carlsen defeated Levan Pantsulaia, Aryan Tari, Vincent Keymer, Vasyl Ivanchuk, Gukesh Dommaraju, Nijat Abasov and Praggnanandhaa respectively. The Norwegian player feels lucky that he didn't have to meet any players at the tournament. He also said that the only difficult match was when he lost to Keymer in the first standard game in the fourth round. In the tie-break series, the 33-year-old player also made a mistake and was "only one move away from the risk of being eliminated", but the number one German player did not realize the winning move.

Carlsen said his next goal is to compete successfully in fast, lightning tournaments. The 2,900 Elo goal has been postponed because he thinks it's not feasible right now. The world's number one player also wants to collect debt from Hikaru Nakamura after losing the Speed Chess Championship final in December 2022.
