Chelsea escaped defeat in the 89th minute
* Score: Burstow 89' - Wolf 80'
Coach Mauricio Pochettino let two rookies Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku play from the start. They dominated the squad that included most of Dortmund's pillars last season, including Adeyemi, Malen, Sule, Hummels and Marcel Sabitzer, the midfielder who just moved from Bayern. However, the Chelsea players paid the price for poor finishing skills.
Jackson shot straight into goalkeeper Meyer in the middle of the box, before Levi Colwill bounced the ball over the bar from five yards. The best chance in the first half also belonged to Jackson. The former Villarreal striker dribbled past goalkeeper Meyer, but the volley went over the bar in front of an empty goal.
Dortmund did not cause much danger towards the Chelsea goal. Goalkeeper Kepa and midfielder Thiago Silva - Colwill easily relieve the pressure.
After the break, Chelsea continued to dominate. Jackson had another chance to face the keeper, but again missed. The striker did not shoot after Sterling's cross, but passed it to Carney Chukwuemeka from an unfavorable position. Then, the Dortmund defender blocked Chukwuemeka's shot.
The surprise occurred in the 80th minute. After hitting the Dortmund players from outside the restricted area, Marius Wolff headed the goal for the German team.
In the last 10 minutes, Chelsea piled up with the determination to equalize. After much effort, they succeeded in the 89th minute. Jackson's replacement Mason Burstow headed a header into the top corner of Dortmund's goal, after Enzo Fernandez's header passed.
The draw against Dortmund is Chelsea's fifth friendly this summer. Before that, they won Wrexham 5-0, Brighton 4-3, drew Newcastle 1-1 and won Fulham 2-0. On August 13, Chelsea kicked off the new Premier League season with a match against Liverpool.
