Chelsea recruit Spain goalkeeper
According to transfer expert David Ornstein, Chelsea have completed negotiations with Brighton as well as Sanchez personally. The Spaniard will undergo a medical examination within a few hours and will be announced soon.
Chelsea will immediately pay $ 25 million to Brighton with an additional fee of 6.4 million depending on Sanchez's contribution. The 25-year-old goalkeeper will compete for the starting spot with Kepa Arrizabalaga next season. Previously, Chelsea let goalkeeper help them win the Champions League 2020-2021 Edouard Mendy went to Saudi Arabia to wear Al Ahli shirt.
Growing up from Brighton's youth academy, Sanchez will be counted as a self-trained player in the Chelsea squad, helping them meet Premier League regulations. According to the Sun, Chelsea goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts is very fond of Sanchez because he worked with him at Brighton.
Sanchez became Brighton's number one goalkeeper under manager Graham Potter - who later became Chelsea's first manager under new chairman Todd Boehly but was sacked in April. During this time, Sanchez was called up to the Spain team for Euro 2021 and the 2022 World Cup.
After Brighton appointed Roberto De Zerbi, Sanchez lost his position as number one goalkeeper to Jason Steele. This summer, "Gulls" recruited Dutch U21 goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen for $ 20.7 million, making Sanchez's chances of playing even more fragile. Brighton then dropped the Spanish goalkeeper from the US tour squad and put him on the transfer floor.
Chelsea are also trying to convince Brighton to release Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo. This is the top transfer target of coach Mauricio Pochettino, who is seen as the new "N'golo Kante" for Chelsea's midfield. However, Brighton shouting for more than 120 million USD for Caicedo is causing the deal to come to a standstill.
