Chelsea was criticized for being mechanical when appointing Lampard

According to former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, the fact that Chelsea president Todd Boehly brought Frank Lampard back until the end of the season was a mechanical and tedious decision.

Lampard used to lead Chelsea from July 2019 to January 2021. In his debut season 2019-2020, he and Chelsea finished fourth in the English Premier League, lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup final and entered the 1/8 round of the Champions League. The achievement of the British coach is highly appreciated in the context of the team being banned from buying and selling players.

In the 2020-2021 season, the fact that Chelsea won only two of the eight matches in the mid-season and dropped to ninth in the Premier League caused Lampard to be sacked. In total, through 84 matches under Lampard, Chelsea won 44, drew 17 and lost 23 matches.

Jordan commented that Lampard had a "temporary" first season and had a bad second season at Chelsea, from performance, style of play to results. The British businessman said that Chelsea's selection of Lampard as interim coach at this time made him "confusion" and "worried" about the future of the club.

In January 2022, Lampard was appointed as Everton manager to replace Rafael Benitez, when the club was struggling to stay relegated. The 44-year-old coach did not help Everton improve, but completed the goal of staying in the Premier League. This season, the fact that Everton continued to play poorly, winning three, losing 11 matches and diving to the bottom of the Premier League table made Lampard fired for the second time in a row. In total, Lampard led Everton 44 games and won only 12, a rate of 27.2%.

According to Jordan, Everton played very badly under Lampard and only luckily stayed in the Premier League last season. He added: "So if this is the blueprint for an iconic and elite $3 billion club, that solves the problem by recruiting one person to attract a fan base, then "There's something missing in their thinking. Chelsea should go after a real manager, they should know who they want and have to get him."

After that, Jordan continued to criticize president Todd Boehly for repeatedly firing Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and then bringing Lampard back. "I think that's Boehly's lazy, mechanical and tedious way of thinking," he said. "And Lampard is very lucky to be given the opportunity. This is what the world of football does. One person has failed under one cover and was given another chance, and that confused me."

On April 6, Chelsea announced the appointment of Lampard as interim coach until the end of the season. Ashley Cole - another former Chelsea player, Lampard's teammate in the 2012 Champions League generation, and Joe Edwards will join the new coaching staff at Stamford Bridge. The duo worked as assistants to Lampard when he led Everton from January 2022 to January 2023.

"It was an easy decision for me because Chelsea is my club," Lampard told Chelsea's official website. "I am a realist. I have been on a different path since leaving Chelsea but returned when asked with the belief that I can help the club through to the end of the season. I am delighted and grateful for this opportunity. ".

Lampard will make his Chelsea debut in the match against Wolves in the 30th round of the Premier League on Saturday, April 8 and then march to Real's field to kick the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on April 12.
