Chess king Magnus Carlsen or players like Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri once expressed anger when they lost to the number one Vietnamese player Le Quang Liem.

Grandmaster Maksim Chigaev's situation of throwing a water bottle may not be beautiful, but it is not the first time a player has been angry when he lost to Quang Liem.

In the third game of fast chess, the super fast Grand Chess Tour at St Louis in 2017, player Nakamura also reacted poorly because of the defeat at the hands of Quang Liem. Before shaking hands to ask for defeat, the Japanese-American player was angry, pulling his chair back, making Quang Liem somewhat startled. When shaking hands, Nakamura did not look at the number one player in Vietnam, but stood up and turned his face away. After Quang Liem left his seat, Nakamura lingered, pushing his chair against the table.

The overreaction of a player before Quang Liem was Carlsen - a five-time world champion. In game 13, the online super fast chess tournament Charity Cup of the Champions Chess Tour system in March 2022, Carlsen smashed the table and muttered something after missing the opportunity to win the Vietnamese player. The two players drew this game, and it did not affect the situation because they went on to the knockout stage together.

A month later, Carlsen met again in front of Quang Liem, in the second round of the Oslo Esports Cup online super fast chess tournament also on the Champions Chess Tour. In the first game, Carlsen accidentally hovered over one space and lost the queen and lost. He leaned back in his chair, looking bored. It was Carlsen's first defeat against Quang Liem in all chess genres, after 15 games without losing.

Quang Liem won overall 2.5-1.5 in this match, winning 7,500 USD in prize money, while Carlsen got nothing from the match. But after Quang Liem won, Carlsen still gave a thumbs up to congratulate him.

The match between Quang Liem and Chigaev at the Chessable Masters online super tournament of the Champions Chess Tour on the morning of March 14, Hanoi time, also has a direct meaning to the prize money. The winning player will be ranked first with the likes of Carlsen or Nakamura, and receive at least 7,500 USD in prize money. The loser will have to play second, only guaranteeing at least $3,000 in prize money.

Chigaev had a great chance to win the game of life and death (armageddon), but after just one move, he was turned over by Quang Liem. After the defeat, the Russian player threw a water bottle on the table to vent his anger.

Chigaev has never been in the World Top 100, while Carlsen, Nakamura and Giri have seniority in the World Top 10.
