Chevron Championship's swing on the green
Yin was even luckier when the ball didn't roll back into the lake despite jumping onto the slope.
Seeing that scene, the 24-year-old American golfer exclaimed "Oh my god!" then laugh.
"She must have hit the turtle in the lake," commented commentator Morgan Pressel on Golf Channel. Pressel is a former Chevron Championship champion in 2007, when the tournament was still known as the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Meanwhile, field reporter Karen Stupples investigated what caused Yin's shadow to rise out of the water. "I went to see it and the water was pretty shallow and there weren't any turtles," joked Stupples. While Stupples announced the conclusion, Yin nearly put the ball into the hole on the second shot. After she missed the birdie, she scored par on the 12th hole.
After the match, Yin talked about the lucky situation: "Extremely shocked. It was like a hole-in-one hit a car. The Golf Channel reporter even advised me to buy a lottery ticket."
In round 3, Yin scored six birdies, a bogey to go to T1 (point -10) with Allisen Corpuz. Yin and Corpuz have neither won a major nor on the LPGA Tour. Right after T1 is T3 (-9) with three hands, and T6 (-8) with four players, including world number two Nelly Korda.
Vietnamese-born face Lilia Vu still has a chance to compete for the cup when she stands at T11 (-6). The Thai player is expected to attend the 32nd SEA Games Eila Galitsky at T52 (+3). Defending champion Jennifer Kupcho and world number one Lydia Ko were eliminated.
This year's Chevron Championship returns to The Club par72 green in Texas, ending 50 years with only the Dinah Shore course of the Mission Hills golf complex in the California desert. The bonus fund this period is at 5.1 million USD.
