Chinese chess players are expected to challenge Chess King Carlson
Dinh Lap Nhan (Ding Liren) is the only contestant to compete in Candidates 2022 with an elo of over 2,800. He is also the second-ranked chess player in the world, second only to Carlson. But this is not why he is expected to win this award. "The reason is to look at his game," Kasparov told World Chess.
In addition to Nail, Kasparov also spoke highly of the experience of Fabiano Caruana and chess World Cup champion Jean-Krzysztof Duda. Caruana, the only player to compete in all four contenders, also challenged Carlson, which he lost in 2018. Duda is Elo's lowest of the eight players who took part in the competition.
The data from Chess.com again assessed Caruana as the most likely winner, up 26 percent to second at 21 percent, while young genius Alireza Firouzja had only a 15 percent chance of challenging the king of chess. Duda's chances of winning are thought to be the lowest, at just 4 percent.
Candidates 2022 brings together eight players, including Dinh, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Teimour Radjabov, Alireza Firouzja, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura and Richard Rapport, with an average elo of 2,772. From June 17 to July 5, the players played two rounds of round robin matches in Madrid, Spain, and calculated points to select the challenger of Carlson, the chess king in 2023.
Carlson has said that if the challenger is a younger generation, he will only participate in the upcoming defending competition. People like Caruana or Ian Nepomniachtchi who lost the battle for the throne are likely to be denied the race by Carlson. In this case, the International Chess Federation will let the first two candidates participate in the finals and become the next chess king.
