Chinese tennis players celebrate Ronaldo-style victory
When he scored a match-point in the tie break in the third set, Wu hit the net after sending the ball into Munar's court. Munar objected to the decision to award points, but the referee did not change. The referee insisted Wu's racket hit the net when the ball was "dead", while the Spaniard said the ball was still in play.
After the referee's decision, Wu celebrated the victory by swinging his arms in the "Siu" style of Cristiano Ronaldo, a former football star of Man Utd, Real and Juventus.
Earlier, in the second set, Munar also complained about Wu's ability to touch the ball twice in a small miss. Even slow-motion video doesn't show it clearly.
Munar won the first set 7-6 (8-6), but Wu won the other two sets 6-0, 7-6 (7-3). The 23-year-old Chinese player entered the second round against another Spanish opponent, Alejandro Fokina.
Wu is ranked 58th ATP. This player once won the Dallas Open in February, when he defeated John Isner with a score of 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (14-12). He became the first Chinese player to win an ATP tournament. At the Grand Slam tournaments, Wu's best achievement was in the third round of the US Open.
Munar is seven ATP ranks behind Wu. The 25-year-old Spaniard won the Andalusian Open and reached the second round of all four Grand Slams.
