Coach Fulham blamed the referee after losing against Man Utd
"Fulham often have difficulty in the matches played by Chris Kavanagh this season," Silva attacked referee Kavanagh, who took charge of the match at Old Trafford on the evening of March 19. "I know him well as a referee. Fulham once lost at West Ham because of two clear handballs and Chris Kavanagh was the whistle at that time."
In this match, Fulham opened the scoring thanks to Aleksandar Mitrovic. However, in the 72nd minute, winger Willian used his hand to block the ball on the goal line, so he was sent off, and the away team had to pay a penalty. Coach Silva overreacted, while Mitrovic pushed the referee and received a red card. Losing two men on the pitch, with the equalizer, brought Fulham down. They lost two more goals and received a 1-3 defeat.
According to Silva, there were two situations where Mitrovic was illegally affected in the penalty area and VAR should have stepped in to consider giving Fulham a penalty. He thinks the home team is unlucky every time referee Kavanagh takes the whistle. "Some of his decisions are really confusing," he added.
The Portuguese military leader also affirmed that he did not understand why he was disqualified from directing. "If the referee showed me a red card because I walked out of the technical area, I would accept it. Of course, I said something to him, but it was not enough to receive such a penalty."
Silva commented that Mitrovic needs to control his emotions better, but he does not think that the Serbian striker's pushing behavior is as bad as the press reports. He is optimistic that Fulham will not be affected much by Mitrovic's suspension in the near term.
Commenting on the game, the 45-year-old leader said: "We played excellent in the first 70 minutes. Fulham clearly played better and caught up with Man Utd's level before the incident happened."
