Coach Klopp: 'Liverpool should not rely on Anfield'

Coach Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool players to regain their form before receiving Arsenal in the 30th round of the Premier League this weekend.

"At Anfield, we need to show progress and good attitude. But Anfield should not be Liverpool's only fulcrum," Klopp said April 7 at his pre-Arsenal press conference on Sunday. "Of course, the combination of home, Liverpool fans and players is fine. But that's just an added advantage, not to be relied on. I have a hunch Liverpool will do it."

Liverpool have continuously encountered unfavorable results against strong opponents recently. They lost 0-1 to Real in the second leg of the 1/8 Champions League round and then lost 1-4 to Man City in the English Premier League. In the midweek match, Klopp's teachers and students were lucky to draw 0-0 on Chelsea's field, a match that, according to coach Klopp, Liverpool had made small strides.

This weekend, they are at the top of the Arsenal table. This is an important match for both teams. Arsenal are in need of points to maintain their hopes of winning the title for the first time since the 2003-2004 unbeaten season, in the context of eight points more but playing one more game than second place Man City. Liverpool also need to win to qualify for the Champions League. Currently, they are 10 points behind the fourth team Man Utd.

"We need to play better and get the ball into the decisive areas. It sounds simple but the last game against Chelsea is an example," said Klopp. "Two teams were excellent last season but couldn't do it all game. That shows what happens when player confidence isn't at its peak. We need to help the players more. On At home, the support from the audience will give them more confidence."

Liverpool will welcome midfielder Thiago Alcantara back after two months of convalescence. Center-back Virgil van Dijk also recovered to play after missing the match against Chelsea because of the flu. However, Klopp does not have Luis Diaz - the striker has been on leave since October 2022 and is expected to return only from the match against Leeds on April 17. The last match Diaz played was a 2-3 defeat at Arsenal in the first phase of the Premier League this season.
