Coach Shin was in pain when Indonesia lost the right to host the U20 World Cup
On the evening of March 29, FIFA announced that it was depriving Indonesia of the right to host the 2023 U20 World Cup. The reason is said to be because the Muslim people of this country continuously protested to boycott Israel, not wanting the Jewish nation to attend the tournament. The island of Bali even intends not to let Israel U20 enter. The draw for the finals group was also postponed due to conflicts.
With FIFA taking away Indonesia's host rights, this country's U20 also lost its place in the tournament. Previously, U20 Indonesia did not pass the group stage of the Asian U20 tournament, where four teams entered the semi-finals to attend the U20 FIFA World Cup 2023. The team of ten thousand islands was only allowed to participate in the tournament as the host.
"First of all, I felt a lot of pain," coach Shin said. "I'm tired too. I can feel the players' mood. We're tired and sad because we've spent three and a half years preparing for this tournament."
Indonesia won the place to host the U20 World Cup 2021 on October 24, 2019, but that period was canceled because of Covid-19. They retain the right to organize the 2023 U20 World Cup, until FIFA announces the disqualification.
Coach Shin said that this decision caused Indonesia to suffer a lot of damage. The Korean military leader explained: "Everyone knows that hosting the World Cup will definitely bring great development to the country, especially football development. The fact that it is not held anymore is really real. It's very regrettable. Moreover, this will take away the hopes and dreams of the players. I can't say anything more."
Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Indonesian Football Federation President Erick Thohir met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino but could not change their decision. FIFA is considering choosing Peru or Argentina as an alternative host.
