Qatar coach Philippe Troussier affirmed that Vietnam is still on the right track despite losing in the 2023 Doha Cup U23 friendly tournament.

In the last match on the evening of March 28 (March 29, Hanoi time), Vietnam lost to Kyrgyzstan 4-5 in a penalty shootout after 90 minutes of a 0-0 draw. According to coach Troussier, Vietnam deserved to win and just lacked luck. "The results on the scoreboard do not reflect the player's performance on the field. Vietnam shows a positive attitude, with many shots towards the opponent's goal," said the French military leader.

The result against Kyrgyzstan made Vietnam leave the U23 Doha Cup empty-handed because they lost all three matches and did not score any goals. The army played in a losing position and lost to Iraq 0-3. In the second turn, Troussier's army was inferior in terms of position and opportunity and then lost 0-4 to the UAE. However, coach Troussier affirmed that Vietnam has achieved its goal in this trip to Qatar, when helping the players play more united and quality. According to him, the whole team will return home with full of documents and information on player evaluation, as well as playing practice.

"I have no regrets or regrets after three defeats," Troussier said. "There will be opposing views because the team has not won a match, but I believe U23 Vietnam is on the right track in preparing for the 32nd SEA Games."

According to the 68-year-old coach, the U23 player has not played much in the past six months, so he is not in the best state and form. In the Doha Cup 2023, the difficulty is also higher when players constantly encounter big opponents. "To have a great lesson, it has to pay a heavy price," he emphasized. "Players will learn many lessons, know their own strengths and weaknesses."

Tomorrow, March 30, U23 Vietnam will leave Qatar to return home, then the players will return to the host club. Coach Troussier hopes they will be able to play in the V-League and First Division regularly to maintain their fitness and feel on the ball. On April 19, the team gathered again, expected to train in Ba Ria - Vung Tau before going to Cambodia. The 32nd SEA Games men's soccer game kicks off on April 29.
