Coach Troussier signed a contract to lead the Vietnam team
Coach Troussier will debut at the end of February. His salary will be slightly higher than the $50,000 per month after tax of his predecessor, Coach Park Hang-seo. Part of the reason is that Troussier will lead both the national team and U23 Vietnam at the same time.
In addition to the task of protecting the 32nd SEA Games gold medal and reclaiming the AFF Cup championship in 2024, the French leader is also expected to help Vietnam create a miracle in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, when FIFA increases the number of players. The number of participants in the final round increased to 48 teams.
Coach Troussier, born in 1955, played as a defender for domestic clubs from 1976 to 1983. He switched to coaching immediately after retiring. Troussier was dubbed the "White Witch" when bringing the African teams South Africa, Ivory Coast or Nigeria to the World Cup finals. He also helped Japan U20 to win the U20 World Cup runner-up position in 1999, the Japanese team won the 2000 Asian Cup and then entered the round of 16 of the 2002 World Cup.
Troussier has worked as Technical Director of PVF Football Training Center since March 2018. In the period of 2019-2021, he led the Vietnam U19 team to win tickets to the 2020 AFC U19 Championship, but because of Covid-19, this tournament was canceled. Troussier then still went to see the V-League, First, Second, U21 and U19 national tournaments to build a new generation of youth to prepare for the Southeast Asian U18 tournament and the Asian U19 qualifier in 2021. In June 2021, he and VFF broke up because they could not agree on the salary when signing a new contract.
