Conflict when the Vietnamese tennis team attends the Davis Cup
On February 7, Hai Dang Club sent an application to Ly Hoang Nam, coach Tran Quoc Phong and expert Ivan Miranda not to join the Vietnamese team to attend the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. On February 12, the chairman of Hai Dang Club, Mr. Thai Truong Giang, continued to declare that he would never allow players on the club's staff to focus on the Vietnamese team. Mr. Giang's decision stems from VTF's lack of care and responsibility over the years, culminating in the Davis Cup play-off in Bac Ninh in early February.
Decree 152/2018/ND-CP of the government stipulating the standards and regimes of coaches and athletes of the national team during training and competition in the country is 375,000 VND/person/day for coaches and 270,000 VND/person/day with athletes. However, when participating in the last Davis Cup play-off, except for accommodation paid by the tournament organizers, members of the Vietnamese tennis team must advance wages and meals during the tournament. The team also did not have a means of transportation, had to walk from their place of residence to the place of practice and competition on the days of attendance, making the members angry and thinking that VTF did not do all its responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the VTF side insisted that they did not do anything wrong. On January 3, VTF sent an official letter to the General Department of Physical Education and Sports on the establishment of a Vietnamese tennis team. On January 17, the General Department issued a decision to train the tennis team, in which the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City paid for meals, salaries, insurance and other expenses according to current regulations. Therefore, according to VTF General Secretary Doan Thanh Tung, the funding for the tennis team to attend the Davis Cup play-off is the responsibility of the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City.
However, according to the research of MetaSports, it was not until January 30, that the General Department of Physical Education and Sports made a decision to establish the Davis Cup tennis team in Vietnam, while the team met Indonesia on February 4 and 5. /2. This led to slow disbursement, causing Ly Hoang Nam and his teammates to advance out of pocket.
The incident caused Mr. Tran Duc Phan, Deputy General Director of the General Department of Sports, to apologize to the members of the Davis Cup tennis team in Vietnam. "The fact that the team has to advance food and drink money when playing at home is wrong," said Mr. Phan.
The Deputy General Director considered it not good for athletes to speak up in the past time, and directed the organization of a tripartite meeting including the tennis department of the General Department of Sports and Sports, VTF, and the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Center to find out errors in the field. which stitch. In addition, tennis also has to work with representatives of Hai Dang Club to resolve conflicts and find solutions to actively develop tennis.
But on the evening of February 14, VTF Secretary General Doan Thanh Tung continued to upset the players and Hai Dang club because of a statement on television. Mr. Tung affirmed that the Vietnamese tennis team is not under the management of VTF, so the Federation is not responsible for transportation, accommodation, training and competition issues, but the HCM City National Sports Center is responsible. that duty.
When asked about this, the chairman of Hai Dang Thai Truong Giang Club said that VTF is the center connecting the parties, so such responsibility cannot be denied. "No matter where there is a logical error like Mr. Tung said, it cannot be," replied Mr. Giang. "As a connection center, we have to work on solving and reporting specifically to places, not when things happen, blame others, still have not realized their mistakes."
Also in a televised speech, Mr. Tung also said he asked captain and coach Tran Quoc Phong if he needed a car to move from the hotel to the stadium, and was answered that he didn't because the two locations were close to each other. However, coach Tran Quoc Phong confirmed that he had never received such a question.
