Conte: 'Kane overcame World Cup shock'

According to coach Antonio Conte, the performance in the Tottenham match against Brentford showed that Harry Kane had overcome the shock of a missed penalty in the quarter-finals of the World Cup 2022.

"If you're mentally strong, if you're a top player, if you're a player at a high level, then there are times when you have to put the negative situation aside and move on. I think Harry have done this," Conte confirmed after Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Brentford on the evening of December 26.

Brentford led 2-0 after 54 minutes, but Kane's 65th minute goal sparked Tottenham's comeback. In the 71st minute, the London team equalized 2-2 thanks to midfielder Hojbjerg.

The match against Brentford as a guest was Kane's first match after the 2022 World Cup. In the quarter-finals of the national team tournament that had just ended in Qatar, it was Kane who missed the penalty that caused England to lose 1-2 to France. This is a big shock for the player who wears the captain's armband and holds the record of scoring 53 goals for the "Three Lions".

At the 2022 World Cup, England were unbeaten until losing to France. In the group stage, they beat Iran 6-2, drew the US 0-0 and won Wales 3-0. In the 1/8 round, England beat Senegal 3-0. Kane has only scored twice on this journey, against Senegal and France. In England, this achievement is only behind Marcus Rashford's three goals.

"Kane played really well at the World Cup. But that's football. You can have positive or negative moments," Conte added.

The Brentford draw is the ninth consecutive game Tottenham have lost. Although satisfied with the way the team reacted to win points, Conte still admitted that the losing streak was not positive.

Tottenham is currently ranked fourth in the Premier League with 30 points from 16 matches, four points ahead of Man Utd, but is playing two more games. Arsenal lead with 40 points after 15 games.
