According to coach Antonio Conte, the first leg of the 1/8 Champions League round at AC Milan was balanced and decided by an error in the Tottenham defense.

"It was a tense and very even game. Our biggest mistake came at the cost of a goal after just five minutes of the opening whistle. I think Tottenham should have done much better," Conte told Mediaset. .

Tottenham coach thinks that the early goal creates conditions for Milan to play defensively. The fact that the opponent is deep in the squad makes it difficult for Tottenham to find the space between the lines. However, Conte believes his students will play better in the second leg, and this is just the start of Tottenham in the knockout round of this year's Champions League.

"We know both teams have injuries and are in a somewhat alarming situation. The players I didn't have today will probably continue to be absent for the second leg. Anyway, congratulations. Milan, because this result gives them the advantage in the second leg," Conte commented.

At the San Siro, Milan won 1-0 thanks to the only goal of midfielder Brahim Diaz in the seventh minute. If he finishes well, the Serie A champions can create a bigger advantage, because the two best opportunities left in the match belong to Milan, when Charles De Ketelaere and Malick Thiaw headed out from close range.

Due to the injury of some pillars, Conte ranked two young midfielders Oliver Skipp and Pape Sarr for the first time in the Champions League. He was satisfied with the performance of the two players and said he would use them more in the rest of the season.

Due to being the coach of Juventus and Inter, Conte suffered boos from Milan fans during the match. But the 53-year-old leader accepted, saying that it is part of football. He even claims to be able to accept boos to a certain extent.
