Dani Alves warned for making noise in prison
During his nearly three months in prison, Alves was said to behave in good manners, adhere to prison rules, and be admired by many of his other enemies. But last week, the 39-year-old defender was cautioned for playing batucada - a Brazilian style of drumming - in his cell during a recent carnaval in his homeland.
According to the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia on April 17, Alves improvised playing batucada by beating with everything he had in his hand and causing a noisy scene in the prison. Brians 2 prison guards reminded Alves that this is not the time and place for parties.
Earlier last week, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the organization of a tournament with 43 prisons competing. Brians 2, the prison located in the municipality of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, about 40 km from Barcelona and where Alves is held - also participated in this tournament. But according to Mundo Deportivo, the former Barca and PSG player ultimately decided not to attend this tournament, because of concerns about the recent wave of violence in prisons.
Alves was detained at the Mossos d'Esquadra de Les Corts, Barcelona on the morning of January 20, on allegations that he sexually assaulted a young girl on December 30, 2022. The former Barca defender had to spend 3 days and nights being held at Brians 1 prison, before being transferred to Brians 2 - where most of the prisoners were sex offenders.
At the end of February, the 39-year-old defender was denied bail by the Spanish Court and could spend one to two years in prison, until his case is brought to trial.
Until April 16, in the latest court appearance, Alves kept his testimony about the incident, compared to the last time to draw. Before that, the Brazilian defender had given five different testimonies. At first, he asserted that he did not know the victim, then said that he had seen this woman but nothing happened. Next, the former Barca and PSG defender confirmed that she took the initiative to move towards him. By early February, Alves first admitted to having sex with the 23-year-old girl. A few weeks later, he accused a 23-year-old woman of sexual assault in the bathroom and has not been honest about the incident since being arrested because he wanted to protect her.
Alves' lawyer Cristobal Martell was satisfied with the client's latest testimony, and revealed that he would continue to file an appeal against the unpaid detention order to help the Brazilian defender get bail. Meanwhile, the victim's attorney, Ester Garcia, expressed his wish that Alves continue to serve in prison during the investigation.
