Djokovic allowed to attend US Open

The US Senate on March 30 voted to pass a bill to end the public health emergency due to Covid-19. The bill is expected to be signed into law by President Joe Biden in the next few days.

With the US Government lifting entry restrictions for those who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19, Novak Djokovic is eligible to enter the US to play a series of tournaments during the August hard court season, including the Grand Slam in New York.

"Going back to Flushing Meadows has always been my desire," Djokovic said in an interview with CNN last month. In the last time he attended the US Open in 2021, Djokovic lost to Daniil Medvedev in the final but received the warm support of the American audience – something he did not experience in previous tournaments.

Djokovic describes the atmosphere in the US Open final 2021 as a great moment in his life. He said, "Even though I lost that match, I received everyone's love and appreciation. So I really look forward to seeing them again."

Djokovic won the US Open three times, in 2011, 2015 and 2018. He has just missed two Masters 1000 in the US and is about to return in the European clay season. If he attends the US Open, Djokovic will most likely play the previous two Masters 1000s in Toronto and Cincinnati.

This year's US Open starts on August 28 and ends with the men's singles final on September 10.
