Djokovic broke another Federer record
Djokovic has reached the Grand Slam semi-finals for the 47th time, one more than Roger Federer. Rafael Nadal ranked third with 36 Grand Slam semi-final appearances, and Jimmy Connors ranked fourth with 31 times. The list of male tennis players who have reached the most semi-finals also includes Ivan Lendl (28 times), Andre Agassi (26) or Andy Murray (21).
Djokovic has broken many records of Federer, including the number of weeks standing on top of the world. After finishing the US Open, Nole will have a 390th week at the world number one, 80 weeks more than Federer. Djokovic also holds a record of 23 Grand Slams, one more major than Nadal and three more Grand Slams than Federer.
In the latest interview with Sports Illustrated Deutschland, when coming to Germany as a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, Roger Federer said Djokovic will increase the Grand Slam record by winning the US Open. "I will bet on Djokovic to win, it's a safe choice," said the former Swiss tennis player.
Djokovic is in high form with 10 consecutive wins, connecting from the Cincinnati Masters to the US Open. At the year-end Grand Slam, he only encountered difficulty in the third round when he needed five sets to defeat Laslo Djere. In the remaining four rounds, Djokovic did not lose any set. The 3-0 victory over Fritz helped Nole maintain a 13-match winning streak in the US Open quarterfinals.
"I have played on Arthur Ashe court for many years, including many epic matches," Djokovic shared. "I'm looking forward to other matches in the coming days. It's always a great opportunity to play here. At 36 years old, I don't know how many more chances I will have."
In the semi-finals, Djokovic will definitely meet another American opponent, either Ben Shelton or Frances Tiafoe. The remaining bracket saw two quarter-final matches that were considered evenly matched. Daniil Medvedev met Andrey Rublev at 0:30 on September 7, Hanoi time. At 7:30 on the same day, Carlos Alcaraz faced Alexander Zverev.
