Djokovic: 'Glory is never enough'
"I don't have any pressure to keep playing, because I'm already celebrating my 20th year as a professional," Djokovic said in an interview with CNN. "I've had enough experience and titles. But I always think, how is enough? I feel glory is never enough. So I always want to do more."
Djokovic missed an important series of tournaments in the US this month, due to a lack of vaccine passports. He previously won the Australian Open, bringing the number of Grand Slams to a record 22 titles like Rafael Nadal. Djokovic will enter the clay season at the Monte Carlo Masters, which kicks off on April 9.
The Serbian tennis player affirmed his ambition to extend the playing time to win more Grand Slams. He said: "I always remind myself of my passion and love for tennis. My first priority right now is the Grand Slam. I need to find a way to adapt to playing at this age."
Djokovic can attend more Madrid Open and Rome Masters, as a springboard to Roland Garros. He won the clay Grand Slam twice, most recently in 2021. The 35-year-old also dominated Wimbledon with four consecutive championships, aiming to equal Roger Federer's record of eight cup lifts.
Former world number one Mats Wilander thinks Djokovic can win at least one Grand Slam a year, until he retires. He said: "At most Djokovic can win five more Grand Slams. Regardless of the court surface, Djokovic has a great chance when he is healthy. Djokovic not only has ambitions to become the best player of all time, but also He has a rare drive to do the work he's been doing for decades."
