Djokovic into ATP Finals finals
The worn-out fitness from the win against Daniil Medvedev on November 18 made Djokovic difficult before Fritz. But thanks to his bravery and experience, the Serbian tennis player still surpassed the American opponent after two series of tie-breaks. Djokovic is just one win away from Roger Federer's record of six ATP Finals titles.
At the age of 35, Djokovic still shows good resilience, even though he only got a 21-hour break after the "marathon" with Medvedev. The 21 Grand Slam owner won the ball game and took a 3-2 lead in the first set against Fritz. But the number one American player immediately equalized the score 3-3, then dragged the set into a tie-break series.
The ability to serve well with 15 aces helps Fritz maintain a balanced game with his senior. He put great pressure on Nole when leading 5-4 in the tie-break. But a series of good attacks from the forehand helped Djokovic win by three points. In the set-point, Nole scored the winner along the line to close the series with a 7-5 victory.
Fritz bounced back at the start of the second set when he won the ball game and led 2-0, then 5-3. But when holding the serve to close the set, the American player could not stand the pressure from Nole. Djokovic equalized 5-5, then put the second set into a tie-break.
In both tie-break series in the match, Fritz failed with the same close scenario. He chased his senior in every score, then couldn't save the set-point when holding the serve. The self-defeating error caused Fritz to lose 6-8 in this series and have to leave the tournament in the semi-finals.
Djokovic raised his winning streak against Fritz to 6 matches. Passing the semi-finals after only two sets helped Nole save fitness and have more time to recover for the final. In the final match, the Serbian tennis player will meet Casper Ruud or Andrey Rublev, who will compete in the second semi-final at 3am on November 20, Hanoi time.
