USANovak Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the US Open on September 5, thereby reaching the Grand Slam semifinals for the 47th time.

Competing in the heat of 34 degrees Celsius on Arthur Ashe center court, Djokovic still proved more resilient than his 25-year-old opponent. The Serbian tennis player increased his winning streak against Fritz to eight, thereby maintaining his unbeaten record in 13 US Open quarterfinals.

Fritz only lost a service game once at the tournament, before meeting Nole. When facing the second seed, Fritz lost six service games. The American player only served 55% of the first balls on the court and won 38% of the second ball points. He made 51 unforced errors, nearly twice as many as Djokovic.

Fritz seemed to have a chance to return when he won the ball-receiving game and equalized the score at 4-4 in the third set. But a series of errors in the next game caused him to be left behind again, before losing 4-6. At the Grand Slam, Fritz has never won against a Top 10 opponent in 11 encounters.

The 10th consecutive victory, continuing from the Cincinnati Masters, brought Nole to the year-end Grand Slam semi-finals for the 14th time. The 36-year-old tennis player has won all of his American opponents in the last 30 encounters. The last time Nole lost to an American player was at Wimbledon 2016, to Sam Querrey.

In the semi-finals, Djokovic will definitely meet another American opponent, either Ben Shelton or Frances Tiafoe. He extended his record of reaching the Grand Slam semi-finals 47 times, and certainly increased his record of 390 weeks at number one in the world after the tournament.

The remaining bracket saw two quarter-final matches that were considered evenly matched. Daniil Medvedev met Andrey Rublev at 0:30 on September 7, Hanoi time. At 7:30 on the same day, Carlos Alcaraz faced Alexander Zverev.
