Novak Djokovic will pair with compatriot Nikola Cacic in the final Masters 1000 before the US Open.

After withdrawing from the Rogers Cup next week, Djokovic registered to participate in the singles and doubles content at the Cincinnati Masters starting August 13. This is only the fourth time the Serbian tennis player has played doubles in Cincinnati, after 2006, 2007 and 2019.

Djokovic will be paired with Cacic - the only Serbian in the top 100 in doubles at ATP. Cacic is ranked 57th in the world in doubles, having won three titles in his career. Djokovic and Cacic have played together three times, including once at the 2021 ATP Cup and twice at the Davis Cup the same year.

During his career, Nole won a doubles title, at Queen's Championships 2010 with Jonathan Erlich. The last time he played doubles on ATP was at the Adelaide tournament earlier this year, alongside Vasek Pospisil.

Nole's move to sign up for doubles shows that he wants to improve his net play before the US Open and prepare for the Davis Cup finals at the end of the year. In the prestigious team tournament, Serbia shares a group with Spain, the Czech Republic and South Korea. At next year's Paris Olympics, Djokovic is also expected to participate in both singles and doubles.

Djokovic hasn't played since the Wimbledon final, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets. The goal of this year's US Open for the world number two is to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slams.
