Djokovic won the first round of the US Open easily
Nole's first match at the US Open after two years saw the dominance of the 36-year-old tennis player. On the day former US President Barack Obama attended, Djokovic took just over an hour and a half to win. He got off to a perfect start, winning all of his games in the first set with ease. Nole scored 14 winners, making only five self-defeating errors in the whole set. Muller tried to rise in the next two sets, but what the French player did was only five games won in the whole match.
Djokovic only let his opponent score eight points in the first set. It wasn't until the ninth game in the match that Muller got his first win. The world number 84 tennis player did not hide his joy and raised his hand to stir the audience. Before that, Muller shook his head many times when he witnessed the unstoppable winners of his seniors.
Losing 0-6, 2-6 in the first two sets, Muller got off to a better start in the third set, drawing 3-3 with Nole. But as soon as Djokovic sped up, he had what he needed to end the final set with a 6-3 win. The Serbian tennis player said he was satisfied with his performance, and hopes to maintain his impressive form in the next rounds.
The victory helped Nole firmly hold the number one position in the world after the tournament, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz. In the second round, he will face Bernabe Zapata Miralles - a tennis player whose forte is clay courts.
The joy was even greater for Nole on the first day of the tournament, when some of the seeds in his branch were eliminated early. Fourth seed Holger Rune lost to Roberto Carballes Baena in four sets. The 15th seeds Felix Auger-Aliassime and 18th Lorenzo Musetti also soon stopped, losing to Mackenzie McDonald and Titouan Droguet respectively. Hosts like Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, Christopher Eubanks or Taylor Fritz all won in the first round.
