Mr. Srdjan wants Novak Djokovic to play for another year and a half, then retire and focus on his personal life.

"What I wanted Novak to achieve, it was all done seven or eight years ago," Srdjan said in the documentary "Novak Djokovic - Untold Stories". "Tennis is just one of those aspects of life. I hope it's recognized for what it's going to be after the end of its career. I hope it leaves the tennis world at the end of next year."

Djokovic is 36 years old but still at the peak of his performance, enough to compete with his juniors. He won three Grand Slams in a row, before losing to 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final more than two weeks ago. Nole still holds a record of 23 Grand Slams and continues to be considered a bright candidate at the US Open next month.

According to Mr. Srdjan, it is time for Djokovic to gradually step back and leave the tennis stage to the youth. "Slowly but surely" is how Djokovic overcame big rivals in the "Big 3" group including Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, to hold prestigious records.

"As a father, sometimes I want him to give up this difficult profession," Djokovic's father continued. "The work is demanding mentally and physically. It has been devoted to tennis for the past 30 years, to the point that there is no time for other things in life."

Also in the documentary, Djokovic's mother Dijana also said that she thought her son would play for another year or two. "Everything depends on it," Ms. Dijana said. "I think it's fine for him to retire. He's already won all the glory."

Djokovic has not revealed when he will retire like Nadal - who has confirmed that he will retire from tennis in 2024. After breaking his unbeaten streak at Wimbledon since 2018, Nole said he still has the desire to win more Grand Slams. But the Serbian tennis player also admits that things have become much more difficult than before, especially physically.

Djokovic just pulled out of the ATP 1000 Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada. He is likely to play only one warm-up before the US Open, the Cincinnati Masters.
