Dwight Yorke: 'Man Utd should borrow Lukaku'
"Lukaku is still qualified enough to play for a top six club," Yorke told OLBG on August 17. "I think Man Utd or Tottenham should borrow Lukaku on a short-term contract and pay a part of his salary. Regardless of the criticism, Lukaku still has a very impressive goalscoring record and doesn't get much of the credit it deserves."
After four seasons at Everton, Lukaku joined Man Utd for $ 104 million in the summer of 2017, scoring 42 goals in 96 games. The Belgian striker suffered a lot of ridicule and lost his starting position since coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at the end of 2018. Therefore, in the summer of 2019 he rebelled, did not show up at the Carrington training center, practiced with the club. Anderlecht and even revealed the internal workout data on Twitter. Finally, Lukaku was satisfied when he landed at Inter for a fee of $ 93 million.
After two sublime seasons at Giuseppe Meazza - scoring 64 goals in 95 matches, winning a Serie A, Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup - Lukaku returned to the Premier League when he joined Chelsea for a record fee of 135 million USD. Last season, the 30-year-old striker joined Inter on loan, but has now returned to Chelsea and is no longer in the plans of new coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Yorke wants Man Utd to re-sign Lukaku to split the fire with rookie Rasmus Hojlund - striker recruited for $ 83 million from Atalanta. "If you have a booming Lukaku and want to contribute to the team, he's a game-defining player and very useful against any opponent in the world," said the Trinidadian and Tobago international. more. "Man Utd invested a lot of money in Hojlund, but if you compete with the top clubs, then Lukaku is a player who can score 15 to 20 goals a season. It is very difficult to find players like Lukaku right now."
Yorke is also worried about the Andre Onana deal, saying that the Cameroon goalkeeper was lucky not to be penalized in an unreasonable situation at the end of the 1-0 win over Wolves in the first round of the Premier League. The 51-year-old former striker also emphasized that, unless he is in the best form, Onana will reveal his weakness in the Premier League.
"Onana's punching situation is an example of high risk," commented Yorke. "Man Utd buy goalkeepers who want to start the ball up and be more aggressive in trying to control the ball. But the Premier League is more intense, the ball will enter the box more often than in Serie A, where the players play at a slower pace. Onana can make mistakes when playing against a stronger club and going higher."
Dwight Yorke was born in 1971, played for Man Utd from 1998–2002, scored 65 goals in 152 matches, won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup. He was part of the Man Utd squad that won the historic treble in 1999.
