Eubanks: 'Greatest Djokovic of All Time'
"Yes, I think so, it's personal opinion," Eubanks told Amazon Prime this week, when asked if Djokovic is the best tennis player in history. "The debate about who is the greatest is subjective. What matters is who you like."
The American tennis player also took the example of basketball, where fans are still debating who Michael Jordan and LeBron James are, "GOAT" (the greatest of all time). "Who has had the biggest influence on tennis?", continued Eubanks. "You could argue that it's Roger Federer, because he changed the sport and is a global icon. But as an athlete, the titles, the records, the number of weeks on top of the world. World, bonuses or anything professional, Djokovic is first."
Djokovic holds a record of 389 weeks at number one in the world, winning $ 171.2 million in prize money - the most in felt ball. He also holds many other prestigious records, such as owning 23 Grand Slams or 38 Masters 1000 titles.
Eubanks also said that he would not argue with anyone choosing Federer as "GOAT", because everyone has a different opinion. "The best person to me is the one who is the most comprehensive," Eubanks explains further. "You can pick a player, put them on any court, against any opponent at any time of the year. Then you'll see Djokovic is probably the best of all."
Eubanks thrived in 2023, reaching the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters and Wimbledon. From outside the top 100, the 27-year-old rose to world number 29 – the best position of his career. Eubanks just won Sho Shimabukuro 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the ATP 500 Citi Open on August 2.
Djokovic is likely to play only one warm-up tournament before the US Open, the Cincinnati Masters.
