Evian Championship has a French champion for the first time
The result of Evian Championship 2023 recorded Boutier holding the prestigious trophy for the first time, thereby having the fourth time on the LPGA Tour. She not only won a noble title in her career, but also brought a breakthrough victory for the golf industry in her homeland. Before Boutier, no French golfer had won the Evian Championship since the tournament's opening - in 1994, and then went to major since 2013.
And also thanks to Boutier's coronation this year, France has the third representative to win the cup in the prestigious event group, after Catherine Lacoste at the US Women's Open 1967 and Patricia Meunier-Lebouc at the Kraft Nabisco Championship (now Chevron Championship) 2003.
At the last Evian Championship, Boutier dropped six strokes from runner-up Brooke Henderson. The French golfer thus caught up with the record for the highest point difference between the first and second places in tournament history, set by Lydia Ko in the 2015 tournament.
Boutier achieved this feat thanks to 68 strokes in the last round. When she entered the game from hole 1, she led at -11 and was more than three strokes away from the next position. On his third birdie on hole 5, Boutier went -14 and doubled that lead.
Through nine more holes, only Henderson got close to the native golfer on the scoreboard but the closest distance to five strokes, the last occurred on hole 15. Both birdies on this hole, but Henderson was -9 while Boutier back -14 after bogey hole 13.
For the remaining three holes, Canadian players par-bogey-par respectively, and Boutier all par. With that ending, Boutier's -14 score became the winning milestone, Henderson finished second (-8).
Of the $6.5 million bonus fund, Boutier received a million dollars, Henderson received approximately $586,000.
The Evian Championship last season reached the 10-year mark of "permanent residence" on the par71 course of the resort of the same name in Evian-les-Bains, France. When winning this tournament, Boutier continued to be the French player with the most cups on the LPGA Tour.
Boutier is 29 years old this year, whose father and mother are both Thai. She graduated from Duke University in North Carolina, USA, majoring in psychology and economics.
