Falling in the 4th half, the Vietnamese women's basketball team lost to Indonesia in the opening match of the SEA Games

Immediately after the gold medal in the 3x3 content, the Vietnamese women's basketball team immediately returned to compete in the 5x5 content at the 32nd SEA Games, which kicked off on the morning of May 9.

In the first match, American coach Michael Olson's army had to meet Indonesia, a direct competitor for Vietnam's medal in 5x5 basketball.

The two teams struggled and suffocated in all 4 rounds, but unfortunately, Thao Vy's injury at a critical moment made the Vietnamese girls lose their breath before the opponent.

In an attempt to score points against the naturalized Indonesian striker Kimberley Pierre Louis, Truong Thao Vy fell and landed on his back and head.

She lay on the ground due to shock and it took a while to get up with the help of medical staff. Thao Vy's injury phase came in the 4th half, when Vietnam was holding a fragile advantage against Indonesia.

Because Thao Vy is the main PG of the Vietnamese women's team, the fact that she had to leave the field had a significant impact on the attack rhythm of the whole team. Many options were used by coach Michael Olson, including rotating Thao My to the PG position.

But no matter what, the Vietnamese team could not attack effectively and had many errors to lose the ball. Meanwhile, Indonesia has timely scoring phases and plays more firmly.

The match ended with a series of 7-0 points of the team from the land of ten thousand islands, helping them to win the final with a score of 67-62.

Truong Thao My was the highest scorer in this match with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Thao Vy is right behind with 14 points (6-15 FG), 3 assists, 2 steals but 7 turnovers. Bui Thu Hang is the remaining outstanding name with 11 points and 4 rebounds and an explosive third half.

On the Indonesian side, naturalized striker Kimberley Pierre Louis led with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. There are also 3 other players scoring above 10 points: Clarita Antonio, Peyton Alexis and Yuni Anggraeni.

In the next match, the Vietnamese women's basketball team will face the Thai team at 9:00 am on Thursday, May 11th. This is likely to be another difficult match for teachers and coach Michael Olson.

Meanwhile, the 5x5 Vietnam men's basketball team will compete at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 10, to also meet the Thai team.
