Fans want Fritz to replace Nadal in the Wimbledon semi-final

Many pundits and fans want Wimbledon organizers to let Taylor Fritz replace Rafael Nadal in today's semi-final against Nick Kyrgios.

Nadal's withdrawal before the game helped Kyegos reach the Grand Slam final for the first time, and at the same time, he had another day's rest. According to some fans, this is unfair to Kyegos' opponents in the final, Novak Djokovic or Cameron Norrie.

"They should let Fritz play Kyegos in the semi-final. It's fair to all," one fan tweeted, tagging Fritz's account. The American tennis player disagreed with the idea. He pushed back: "No. I didn't expect such a gift. If I can't beat Nadal, I don't deserve to play in the semi-finals."

Fritz'position has been opposed by experts, the former number one Mats Wilander world thinks the Grand Slam should change the rules in case of retreat, Nadal. He said, "We should have good luck tickets in every game by keeping the loser out of the past, which is not good to let a man out of the finals, selling or finals without anyone else to stand."

ATP tournaments only give lucky tickets before the main round. In Wimbledon this year, the top two seeds Marin Cilic and Matteo Berrettini retreated right before the tournament, so they were replaced with the players who lost the qualifying. To the second round, Roberto Bautista Agut withdrew because Covid-19 and rival Daniel Galan suddenly went on without playing.

The former number of three Americans Pam Shriver urged ATP, WTA and Grand Slam to change the law of luck. She said: "I feel Fritz should be given the opportunity. We have two semi -finals but now only see one match. Wimbledon is definitely damaged because this is one of the biggest matches in the season."

According to the New York Times's commentator Nick McCarvel, ATP Finals and WTA Finals have a case of a player who lost a group in the group stage but then won. Therefore, the fact that Grand Slam awarded lucky tickets to the player lost the battle when the winner withdrew was the topic should be seriously discussed.

Nadal announced withdrawing from the Wimbledon semi -final on the evening of July 7, after experiencing uncomfortable training on the morning of the same day. The 36 -year -old player suffered a 7 mm tear in the abdomen from the long -term semi -final set with Fritz.

Nadal is not the first case to stop the game in Grand Slam when it is considered a championship candidate. Novak Djokovic was once disqualified while playing the fourth round of 2020 with Pablo Carreno Busta because of the ball error on the referee. Naomi Osaka last year left Roland Garros because he did not want to answer the press conference. In 1990, the legendary John Mcenroe cursed the referee and was disqualified when he was fighting the fourth round of Australia.
