Female runner sets marathon record at the age of 92
Allansmith set the record at the Honolulu Marathon in December 2022, completing the 42km in 11 hours 19 minutes 49 seconds at the age of 92 years and 194 days. In 2021, she also completed this marathon with a time of 10 hours 38 minutes 59 seconds.
But on August 2, the Guinness Book of Records confirmed and awarded the certificate to Allansmith.
Runner, who just turned 93, said he has been training hard since setting a record in Hawaii. She revealed that she works out year-round, but increases the distance running about 18 weeks before the marathon. "The pace and distance of running each day will vary, but no matter what, I will still put on my running shoes and go out. out of the house six days a week. On average, I run nearly 60 kilometers a week," she said.
Allansmith started jogging at the age of 46, while still a doctor. She believes it leads to a healthy body and mind, in addition to a healthy diet and active lifestyle. "I see a direct link between running and health. I would say that a healthy lifestyle allows me to maintain a very high quality of life," she said.
In addition to the thrill of breaking a world record, Allansmith also enjoys doing it in his favorite tournament. "The Honolulu Marathon is my favorite, in part because they don't close the track to the cut-of-time (COT) milestones. This allows even the slowest runners to finish the race," he said. 93-year-old runner explains.
Allansmith insists he wants to run the marathon for as long as possible, and hopes the achievement at the Honolulu Marathon 2022 is not the final world record. She revealed that she wants to become the oldest female runner to complete the 10km and half marathon this year.
